Artistbiografier Publicerad 2010 10 13 Text Roadrunner ALTER BRIDGE AB III Roadrunner Records are delighted to announce the release of American rock band ALTER BRIDGE s third album AB III in October 2010 The acclaimed band fronted by Myles Kennedy and also including Mark Tremonti Brian Marshall and Scott Philips will follow up the release with European dates between 16 October and 4 December We ve been wanting to pair up with Roadrunner for a while now says Tremonti We ve always thought it would be the perfect home for us especially with all the other acts on the Roadrunner roster so we really wanted to make it happen He adds We re real excited to get the record out We lock ourselves into a room 24 hours a day when we re doing a record and we put everything we had into AB III It s been a whirlwind Looking back at Alter Bridge s brief but tumultuous career to date you can t help but agree with him Formed in 2004 by Tremonti and Phillips after a cooling of their relationship with Creed singer Scott Stapp Creed has since reconciled and reunited the new band hooked up with then ex Creed bassist Marshall and former Mayfield Four frontman Kennedy who now also fronts Slash s touring band and recorded their debut album One Day Remains The album soon went gold in the USA and spawned three singles and in addition the now classic WWE Superstar Edge s theme Metalingus Alter Bridge s rise was swift with Tremonti becoming a regular cover artist in guitar magazines due to his unearthly axemanship A second album Blackbird was released in 2007 and also produced a slew of singles among them Watch Over You used to promote VH 1 s Celebrity Rehab With Dr Drew A world tour followed and helped to ram home the Alter Bridge message to hundreds of thousands of fans So what is that message For the first two albums the theme seemed to be about new beginnings and the struggle to stay positive in the face of adversity However on this third album Tremonti tells us that while all the Alter Bridge members share a common bond musically their views on many subjects differ We all believe different things he says In fact the overall theme of this record is Myles struggle with faith He has trouble believing in anything spiritual and he really puts that out there Personally I don t believe in organized religion I think it s crazy to believe that people are going to burn in hell if they don t go to the same church that you do One of AB III s many high points is the song Words Darker Than Their Wings which refers to the very real dilemma faced by Kennedy when it comes to reconciling the tangible and spiritual worlds Myles once said that he didn t believe in anything recalls Tremonti I said You ve got to

record was the craziest thing ever Parts were sent in from all over the world by people wanting to participate in the first once in a lifetime global collaboration It was insane dude The result is the second Methods of Mayhem album A Public Disservice Announcement the first truly collaborative effort an artist of Tommy s magnitude has ever dared to attempt The concept came easy the execution did not it took time technology patience and dedication The first step was to set the parameters Tommy and his team including producer Scott Humphrey singer guitarist J3 and others wrote and recorded the songs which ran the gamut from hard rock anthems to ballads to dance tracks Then they made the core components of each song available for download on http www thepublicrecord com to anyone who wished to add their playing or otherwise re interpret the music however they saw fit Tommy listened to every single submission that was uploaded chose the best and integrated the actual audio tracks into the album s final cuts Some people were confused because no one has attempted anything like this before Tommy says I got a lot of emails asking me if they d get songwriting credit if their part was used That wasn t the case because all of these songs were already written and recorded That s not to say that the many contributors will remain anonymous however Every single musician whose part was used is credited and thanked on the album Credit doesn t always happen in the music industry or any industry when you re starting out Tommy says And it hardly ever happens the first time you do something I ve done plenty of things for the credit not the check so I made sure that all of the people who sent us things we used were called out for their work Take it from me credit lasts forever money doesn t The song files were made available on The Public Record on October 5th 2009 By the end of the submission period in February 2010 the page was viewed over 1 million times and over 10 000 submissions were uploaded The music Tommy received was all recorded in ProTools Logic or Garage Band And if a would be collaborator had none of those they were able to download a program called Riff Works for free from the website What came back once the public got its hands on the raw ingredients was truly all over the map just as Tommy had hoped There were techno tracks sent in from the foothills of Osaka Japan there were hand drum rhythms sent in from India and searing guitar solos sent from as close to home as San Diego There were also plenty of sounds to confuse and boggle the mind Some crazy dude from Prague I think it was sent in a spoken word track that had nothing at all to do with the song Tommy says It was

your mind when time s going along and things seem farther away and the minutes tick by and things gets worse and worse Jake explains It s a rebellion against that self destructive train of thought I know if a song s really good when I tear up slightly when I hear it and this one s made me cry a couple of times Embarrassingly It s triumphant it s a song for everyone it s not subtle in any way and I love it As a blissful anthem about facing challenges standing your ground holding your nerve and somehow winning in the end Fire With Fire is a celebration of the human spirit but it s just as easily a celebration of the fact that Jake Ana Matronic Babydaddy and Del Marquis have somehow made it to a third album While this album s predecessor with its almost convincingly upbeat title Ta Dah masked a sometimes quite downbeat mood Night Work always feels like dancing but absent this time round is what Babydaddy describes as the Muppety fuzziness There are handclaps for example but crucially there are no jazz hands The maudlin feel on the last album is Jake says replaced now by a much more sinister one which I LOVE It s sinister in a very sexual pleasure filled way A lot of the album is about going past your limits and going too far The album therefore begins with the ultimate going out song Night Work then ends eleven tracks later not with a whimpering ballad but a dancefloor shaped big bang in the form of hands in the lasers blowout Invisible Light While most albums tend to wind down in their final moments this is the night out that refuses to end but it s fair to say it took its time getting started The Night Work story began after the band s headline shows at London s O2 in 2007 when the band went straight back in the studio for five day weeks There could actually have been an album two years ago Babydaddy recalls There was a lot of material but it didn t make sense I only wanted Scissor Sisters to come back if there was a reason for us to come back and if there had been enough of a change to fill up the airwaves It didn t mean anything Jake explains and we didn t know what we wanted to say So the band decided to try some new things Babydaddy learned to paint Ana threw herself into creative writing and Del released some music by himself Jake wrote a musical but Jake also went to Berlin He went dancing surrendered himself to the city and became dislodged in time on the middle of that dancefloor and while he was wondering what year it was he asked himself the question if it were for example 1984 what would happen next And it made me start thinking about New York and
